About dallas pryor

The early years of Dallas Pryor were split between homes in two Kansas towns that he would grow up loving, and call both home. With Mom raising him on the Shawnee Heights side of Topeka, and his Dad on a farm in Dickinson County near Abilene, he would later grow to adopt the Interstate-70 stretch and everything between his two towns as home. Dallas sang everywhere he went from an early age. A lot of times to the exasperation of family and friends. Blissfully ignorant of the volume or the perfectionist detail of his singing, he would go on filling every car, store, church, or home he entered with song.

Teenage years brought forward work ethic that growing up as a rural loving Kansan had instilled. Dallas started his first job at a dairy in Tecumseh, KS at 14 years old. That job would open the path to many odd jobs and hard work through high school. From the dairy farm, to the family farm, to bussing tables, to flipping pizza, to spending summers laboring at the grain elevator, hard work came naturally. The upperclassman years of high school did not come so naturally, but choir class did. Dallas’s only vocal training came from his choir director, but as easily as singing came to Dallas, the steps to a career in the music industry would be anything but.

The next step in life didn’t have direction. Dallas knew only one thing. He wanted to go to a place that had become not just a favorite of his, but a part of his identity as a person. To college at Kansas State University in Manhattan, KS. Without a financial way there, Dallas took what would become his normal route to any destination, and took the hard way. At the end of summer of his senior year Dallas enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. Allured by the sharp and shine of USMC dress blues and a “If I join, might as well join the best” mentality, he set out on a new path. No stranger to hard work, Marine Corps training was a welcome challenge to a young Dallas Pryor. While in training to become an avionics man on CH-53E “Super Stallions”, Private Pryor would begin to meet another core group of friends that never would fade. Restrained to the barracks smoke area or their rooms, Dallas, along with his friend group of new Marines, would take to the smoke pit drinking Monster energy drinks, smoking cigarettes, and singing country songs while other friends played guitar. One of those guitar playing buddies was soon given orders to Hawaii. He couldn’t bring his guitar with him, so he sold it to Dallas for $50. The long road to become a “decent” guitar player had begun.

Guitar came much harder than singing had for Dallas. It took years to develop a tolerable rhythm and strum pattern, and even longer to learn the finesse not to beat his strings like they owed him money. One night after closing time in his favorite bar near his duty station, Dallas broke out his guitar to strum and sing for the bartenders as they locked up and counted money. The owner stood across the bar and told him, “If you don’t start playing here for money, I’m not gonna let you back in.” He bought a PA system and Dallas played his very first gig. The shows and good times would go on until it was time for him to say goodbye to the Marine Corps. After years of being homesick for the Great Plains, Dallas returned home with a guitar in hand. He would start up a career as an electrician and on weekends he’d set out to every honkytonk that would listen to attempt to book shows. It wasn’t long before he ran into a fellow picker, Keegan Knox, outside of Abilene. Being the only two in the bar, they got to swapping songs and before they knew, the Lazy Wayne Band was born.

The name Lazy Wayne came from the college nickname of Keegan “Lazy K” and the middle name of Dallas “Wayne”. The duo would travel and play together and eventually form the first full band rendition of the Lazy Wayne Band until 2017 when Keegan told Dallas he would be moving out of state but encouraged Dallas to keep the band name. Feeling uncomfortable performing under his own name, Dallas decided to continue growing and playing under the name “Lazy Wayne Band”. After years of cutting their teeth and playing every bar and small-town festival in the region, Dallas and the band became so busy that he quit his electrical career of almost a decade to pursue music full time in 2021. Since the band’s original formation, Dallas managed the change of members until 2023 when the current rendition of the Lazy Wayne Band came into the fold. The Lazy Wayne Band soon became THE country band to bring out for any event. Playing 100+ shows a year, headlining festivals and venues across the region, and opening countless large venues and festivals for national Nashville and Texas acts became the norm and brought The Lazy Wayne Band into fruition.

Dallas took all he learned throughout the years into a new plan and the next step of his career. He booked studio time in Nashville, TN and took the songs that he had spent years writing to begin recording his first album. The next step was to stand at the forefront of his career. Dallas stepped out from behind his band’s name and released his first single “Woman Like You” on June 13, 2025, as “Dallas Pryor”. The name of “The Lazy Wayne Band” was something he never want to abandon. With the drive and the loyalty that his band showed throughout years of tough and demanding touring, Dallas decided to pass the legacy of the Lazy Wayne Band to the members. Sam Williams(Since 2018), Logan Sanders(Since 2022), and Tyler Jiminez(Since 2023). Much like George Strait has the Ace in the Hole Band at his back, the name they market may be “Dallas Pryor”, but fans will know the guys on stage with him are The Lazy Wayne Band.
